Experience

SafariGear is run by people who have lived and worked in Africa for many generations. We have the benefit of firsthand experience of the African bush and the knowledge of what works well in the African environment. For example, we have a "no Velcro policy" because we know that Velcro does not work in the bush. Velcro attracts grasses very quickly indeed and soon becomes useless.

Research

The clothes are handmade by a factory which conducts its business, as we do, with honesty, integrity and most importantly with respect to individual human rights.

About our Clothing

SafariGear makes its own safari clothing. We design and make our own clothing because we know what does and does not work in Africa and simply put we don't think anyone else makes it as well as we do. Our safari clothing is hand made from very high quality cotton milled to our exact specification and it is made to be cool, comfortable and last a very long time. It is proven in the field and is worn by safari professionals all over Africa.

Cotton is generally known to be the best fabric for hot weather climates (just Google "which fabric to wear for hot climates" and see the results for yourself). There are some excellent wick away man made fabrics available on the market but they tend to be less comfortable to wear than pure cotton. One major advantage of cotton is that the more it is worn and washed, the better the wicking properties become and the more comfortable it becomes. If you are planning to do some running or extreme exercise in Africa then we recommend you take some proper sports wicking clothing, otherwise our main concern is your comfort - and for that nothing beats cotton.

The SafariGear Collection comes in Khaki, Olive and Stone - this is because they are the best colours for blending in with the bush and therefore for game viewing. Extreme colours like white, red etc stand out a mile for the animals, and black and blue colours attract TseTse flies and mosquitoes.

None of the SafriGear range of clothing has Velcro, because Velcro attracts grasses and is very quickly rendered useless. Instead we use high quality brass buttons and poppers because we know how tough the clothing needs to be and we want it to last a lifetime.

All our clothing can be treated with antibacterial or antimosquito spray with no effect on the clothing at all. Although the SafariGear Range is produced for Africa, the versatile collection is also suitable for similar climates throughout the world and is suitable for cosmopolitan use too. We are proud of our clothes, and believe you will be too.

The quality fabrics and designs, proven in the field, are worn all over Africa by safari guides, rangers, game wardens and residents. The SafariGear Range is produced for Africa but the versatile collection is also suitable for similar climates throughout the world.

Made from one hundred percent cotton manufactured to our specification, the hand made SafariGear Range is strong, light and cool - suitable for trekking in the searing sun and stylish enough for any cosmopolitan environment or cocktail party. SafariGear offers comfort and style in a choice of complementary colours, attractive on their own or matched with any other in the range.
